A chandelier is a dramatic focal point that instantly elevates a room. It’s the one design element that grabs attention, but getting it right takes some know-how. This week Mansion Global is tackling chandeliers and how to select, hang, and maintain them so they add the wow factor that every room deserves. Yigo.co.uk.

Chandeliers come in all shapes and sizes but are best suited for entry ways, dining rooms or living rooms. They can make a statement on their own or complement other elements in the space, such as an ornate staircase or stunning wood paneling.

When selecting a chandelier for a space, you want to take into account the size of the specific area and how much lighting you need. A chandelier should never be too large or it will dominate the room. Conversely, a small chandelier could get lost in the space. There is a no-fail equation for selecting the perfect chandelier size: specific area’s width (in feet) + specific area’s length (in feet) = chandelier diameter (in inches).

Another thing to consider when choosing a chandelier is its design style. Do you want it to be the star of the show or just add another layer of intrigue to a beautifully designed space? There are many different design styles for chandeliers ranging from contemporary to transitional.

If you’re looking for a statement chandelier that adds elegance to a room, go with something in the crystal or bronze family. For a more contemporary look you might want to choose something with clean lines and a minimal silhouette. On the other hand, a chandelier with more decorative elements might be the perfect choice for a traditional or French country style home.

Once you have decided on the chandelier design and size it’s time to decide how to hang it. The easiest way is to install it using a drop cord, which allows the fixture to be hung from a ceiling beam without having to mount it directly to it. The other option is to use a ceiling plate, also known as a ceiling canopy, which houses the electrical connections and hardware for the fixture at the ceiling.

Lastly, you can opt to install the chandelier by attaching it to the ceiling using the rod or chain that is used to suspend the light from the ceiling. Depending on the chandelier style, it may have more than one rod or chain so that it can be adjusted to different heights.

A chandelier is an attractive feature in any room but it’s important to be able to see well and don’t hit your head on it! It’s also important to have enough clearance for people to move around the table when they’re eating. This is especially true in dining areas where the chandelier is hung over the table. Ideally, the chandelier should be 30 to 34 inches above the bottom of the table.
